Dog Breeds

Top 7 Dog Breeds

My most controversial list yet - the top 7 dog breeds. I want to preface this by saying I love all dogs and it was incredibly hard to rank them. But somehow, I managed to get through it Especially the challenging research phase. Seeing so many cute pictures was pure torture. 😊 But be warned, I am quite biased toward my dogs and the puppies I grew up with. So, if you disagree, share your list in the comments.

To the rankings...

7. Dalmatian

I've never met one in real life, but I've been obsessed with this breed since watching 101 Dalmatians.

6. Labradors

An affectionate breed that makes great companions. And they love to swim!

5. Jack Russell Terrier

It should come as no surprise that I love this dog, after all Becky's puppy Lorelai is a Jack Russell in my Hollywood Whodunit series! Famous TV dogs Eddie and Wishbone are also terrific representatives of this breed.

4. Border Collie

Growing up my neighbors had a border collie who was smart, energetic, and loved herding the kids. It was hilarious to watch her work.

3. Golden Retriever

I have yet again been influenced by pop-culture. But after watching Air Bud play every sport from basketball to football, how could you not fall in love with this breed?

2. Terrier Mix

I have no idea what breed my Penny is but she's some sort of terrier and I just love her personality. She's excitable, affectionate, and completely entuned to noises. She hears songs on the radio and gets excited when her favorites play - Blue Suede Shoes & Amarillo by Morning.

1. Cockapoo

The top spot on my dog breed list belongs to the cocker spaniel and poodle mix. I've always had poodles and they are brilliant dogs... and sometimes little pranksters. But what I've noticed about the cockapoo is how friendly they are compared to poodles (who are close to their owner but not necessarily friendly). Bluebonnet is social, outgoing, and has never met a stranger.

I love dogs of all kinds. The healthiest ones I have owned have been mutts. However, I have a black Lab and he hates water!

It seems like mutts get the best traits of all their ancestors! As for the black lab that hates the water... there's always that one silly pup that breaks the stereotype. Penny is a terrier, but she hates the water/rain and she has terrible hunting skills. She doesn't notice a rabbit hopping ten feet from her. 🤣

I am all for cocker spaniels without the poodle. Never met a poodle that was very friendly, nor a dalmation. Labs and Goldens love everyone, and border collies won't quit herding you where they want you (same with Samoyeds).

Poodles have different strengths other than friendliness but, they are incredibly close with their owners. The mix with the cocker spaniel has been fun to see! Bluebonnet is the most outgoing dog I've ever met (which is a big shock for her introvert owner 😁). Everywhere we go, it is the Bluebonnet show.

I would include German schnauzers, esp the minatures. I would also include st bernards as they are so loveable. I know this from personal experience. Maybe they should be in the honorable mention as I don't imagine many consider them as a pet since they grow to be quite large.

I almost put St. Bernards in my top 7 because I loved Beethoven as a kid. Definitely an oversight not putting them in my honorable mentions.

It was really close with German Shepards! I had them on the list and then I rearranged it. But like I said, I love all dogs and it was really hard to narrow it down.
